Purpose of tournament:

Blue Jays for Baltimore is hosting a 7 on 7 football camp for local highschool players at the Johns Hopkins University. The event is not only to local highschool players with high level coaching but also to emphasize the importance of mental health to these young men, featuring a keynote speaker on the topic. Along with the mental health emphasis, other engagement opportunities will be presented, i.e career readiness, nutrition, strength and conditioning, etc. This will take the form of break time between games being filled with enriching opportunities from a variety of professionals from the Hopkins Strength and Conditioning program, Recreation Center, Life Design Lab, and mental health non-profit “Morgans Message.”

Team info:

  • Teams will be organised under independent supporting businesses
    • Teams will not be affiliated with highschools (each team will have players from different schools)
    • Team names will be provided by the team sponsors (ie. Team BJB)
  • Teams will be coached by community members unaffiliated with highschool teams or hopkins football players
    • High school coaching staff can have involvement in stations of mixed player highschools
  • Maximum of 20 players per team, Minimum of 7

Price: 

  • FREE for all participants

Event Structure:

  • 16 team pool play followed by re-seeding and tournament play
  • 4 active fields (two on Homewood field, two on practice field behind Athletic Center)
  • Engagement tents set up next to Homewood field
    • Mental health talk by Morgan’s Message
    • Life Design/Career center tent by LDL 
    • Nutrition tent by JHU strength coach & nutrition expert
    • JHU admissions tent
    • College life tent by JHU football players
  • Lunch will be provided for all registered players and coaches 

Event Schedule:

7:45 am – Check in and team assignments

8:45 am – Guest speaker and event kickoff

9:00 am – Pool play begins

(30 min designated for team break and tent visits)

12:00 pm – Lunch 

12:30 pm – Guest speaker 

1:00 pm – Tournament play begins 

3:30 pm – Winner announced and event wrap up
